The nitty gritty

Post to forum:

In an environment where head lice are becoming more prevalent, it’s more important than ever that parents take the time and care to use head lice treatments correctly.

Unfortunately, they often don’t, says Claudia Pulko, from the Dover Pharmacy in Dover, Tasmania, who’s the 2011 Tasmanian Pharmacy Assistant of the Year.

A solution of 10 drops of tea tree oil in 100mL of water can be put into a spray bottle, shaken and then sprayed on the child’s hair as a deterrent, and it’s mild enough to use every day, though Claudia cautions that parents should use this dilution rather than tea tree oil directly on the scalp.

In our shop we are seeing more parents go for the natural stuff as they’ve heard about it giving better results than the normal things and have seen it on TV. We always remind parents, whatever they use, to repeat the whole thing over again. It’s really important to stop them coming back.

I recently came across a really fab brand called ECO.KID that makes hair care products designed for kids, and their Lice Bomb product is all-natural. Following is a link to an overview of the brand: http://benaturallyou.com/638-2/eco-kid/

I have also heard that using tea tree oil mixed with water is hugely effective as a preventative spray and for treatment. There are so many great natural solutions nowadays but still a lot of parents are neglecting to do anything about it. simple solutions to problematic critters!

Sam, that's really interesting about ECO KID as I know lice are a terrible problem for kids and parents of course!

Is it easily available thru the major wholesalers??

I'm not sure where ECO.KID is available from in Australia? I was given a product to check out for work but I just tried to check if they had a stockist list but only came across an email address to enquire about "where your closest stockist is" anzstockists@ecokid.com.au

We definately see a huge trend toward the natural remedies as opposed to the 'old' medicated solutions. But it still amazes me how many parents some back in and say the treatment has not worked... did they re-treat 7-10 days after initial treatment ? NO ! either they do not re-treat at all or they do it like 3 days after the initial treatment... We always make sure we try to have a bit of a chat to customers regarding headlice and their lifecycle etc :)
