The lowdown

I’m a great fan of the red lips and black eyeliner look that’s on-trend at the moment: but of course, red isn’t a lip colour that’s too forgiving of mistakes or ‘bleeding’ into fine lines. Lip pencil’s a good way to get a defined line that stays put.

Designer Brands lip pencils have become my firm favourite, and they actually stand alone as a lip colour: instead of just lining the lips, fill them in! The pencils are soft enough to give long-lasting lip colour without causing lips to chap or dry out – and they give a lovely, soft matte finish, too. Just add a touch of lip balm or gloss if you like a little shine. Try Fire Red for a real stand-out retro red, or the sophisticated Red Hot Red (pictured), a darker shade with a touch of wine.
